Statement of Intent:
Durham AV recognises that its operations have an effect on the local, regional and global environment. While the services we provide are not damaging in themselves, our day to day operations inevitably impact the environment in a number of ways and we wish to minimise the potentially harmful effects of such activity wherever and when ever possible.
The scope and purpose of this policy is to reflect the commitment of management towards
• Minimising the harmful effects of our operations
• Compliance with applicable environmental legislation and regulations
• The ongoing improvement of the environmental management systems within Durham Audio Visual Hire Pty Ltd.
Method:
• To commit to and implement this Environmental policy in line with International Standards including AS/NZS ISO 14001
• To implement our Environmental polices and procedures through coordinated Environmental Management Systems
• To maintain and improve the environmental performance of Durham AV.

Definition:
Environment – is the surroundings in which an organization operates including air, water, land, natural resources, flora, fauna, humans, and their interrelation. Surroundings within an organization extend to the global system.
Authority / Responsibility:
The Managing Director and all employees of the company.
Relevant Actions:
The company is committed to prevent pollution and reduce waste and consumption of resources through the adoption of a sustainable procurement policy that considers:
• the impact of new hire products at all stages of there life cycle
• Power consumption of each piece of equipment
• The ability for the product to be recycled,
• A commitment to recovery and recycling, as opposed to disposal wherever feasible.
• The reduction of fuel and energy use through efficient use of resources through effective coordination of delivery routes and schedules resulting in reduced fuel consumption and lower exhausted emissions
• The use of rechargeable batteries wherever practicable within the business
• The collection of all exhausted batteries used in connection with our hire equipment, and where applicable the disposal of same using best practice environmentally sensitive methods.
• Increased awareness and performance through education and training of our staff and by sharing environmental experience and solutions with best practice organisations.
• The involvement of and communication with interested parties in relation all environmental matters.
• the emphasis of preventive rather than corrective action in our methodology, reducing landfill, regular monitoring of technology to reduce consumption of resources.
• The use of audits and management reviews to monitor and re-evaluate environmental objectives and targets in order to ensure continual improvement of Environment Management Systems.
COMMUNICATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY:
The environmental policy shall be co-ordinated with the quality policy and Occupational Health and Safety policy and shall be communicated to all employees through the intranet and posting to staff noticeboards. This policy shall be displayed on the company’s website thereby clearly communicating to the public the company’s intentions towards the environment.
